ENGINEERINGNET.EU – Weir Minerals has established a new sales and service centre in the Netherlands.

The investment is a direct consequence of a new agreement with Van Oord to provide training to ship operatives before they embark on their first projects.

To enable it to expand its operation, Weir Minerals moved its centre from Venlo to Nederweert, near the Belgian border.

Tony G Locke, Managing Director of Weir Minerals Europe, said: “Our new centre in Nederweert is a key hub from which we can support a wide variety of mineral processing or slurry handling industries across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. It is essential in supporting our expansion both geographically and outside of our core mining customer base.”

The new centre, which opened its doors in January 2012, has supplied a range of slurry pumps and spare parts for two of Van Oord’s recent build cutter dredgers - the Athena and Arthemis. The contract worth is estimated €750,000.

Van Oord is one of Weir Minerals longest established clients in the Netherlands which uses the firm’s mineral processing equipment on more than 30 vessels the world over.

A permanent team of Weir Minerals technicians are based at the centre so that repair and maintenance can be carried out nearby, minimising turnaround time.
