ABB Acquires Amarcon to Strenghten its Process Division

ENGINEERINGNET.EU -- The power and automation technology group ABB has acquired the highly specialized Dutch marine software developer Amarcon. This company employs 15 people and offers software solutions that focus on safety and improved operational ability.

“Amarcon’s products, its know-how of ship hydrodynamics and ship modeling capabilities are a complementary and strategic fit for our existing software portfolio,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division.

“With a strong software background, this acquisition will provide us with additional access to fast growing energy optimization markets.”

Leon Adegeest, founder and Managing Director of Amarcon sees growth opportunities: “We will expand our ability to reach a broader range of customers in new geographic regions.”

Amarcon will join ABB’s Process Automation Division. Financial details were not revealed.

The ABB group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.
